American Guide Week:  Robie House

This house, found in Chicago, is one of Frank Lloyd Wright’s designs. Born in Wisconsin, he became the preeminent American architect of the 20th century. Although he designed more than 500 homes, he became known for his Prairie style.

The style is usually marked by horizontal lines, flat or hipped roofs with broadoverhanging eaves, windows grouped in horizontal bands, integration with the landscape, solid construction, craftsmanship, and discipline in the use of ornament. Horizontal lines were thought to evoke and relate to the native prairie landscape.  — Wikipedia
